Chem Mystery : A Lecture cum workshop in Chemical Sciences

AMAN, an NGO, launched by the Menon Family, Habshiguda Hyderabad in collaboration with Royal Society of Chemists (London) – India’s Deccan Local Section, organised CHEM MYSTERY on Friday 30th March 2018 – to celebrate the life of P L Menon on his birthday. The venue was Nagarjuna Nagar Community Hall.

Over 50 students from 15 schools in and around Tarnaka and Secunderabad, from classes 7,8,9, participated in the workshop from 9.00 AM to 5 PM.

Welcome address and Introduction was given by Dr. Amita Rani. Ms Rohini spoke about AMAN and life of P L Menon – her uncle. Prof V Peesapati, Secretary RSC – IDLS, briefed about the Royal Society of Chemists (London) Indian Deccan Local Section. Keynote address on Human Anatomy and Physiology was given by Dr. U N Das from USA. There were a variety of events organised for the students viz Essay writing on - Importance of Chemistry in Daily life – individual Cash prizes were awarded to the best 3 essays. The students were randomly grouped into 18 teams of 3.

These teams took part in Puzzles/ Word Search – Cash prizes to top 3 teams were awarded. There was a slip test to select 8 teams for Quiz. Again cash prizes were given to the top 3 teams. Finally Demonstration of Chemistry magic was conducted by Prof Peesapati and his team of experts. The feedback from the participants has been very good.

Forum for Senior Citizens Tarnaka joined in the Valedictory to award P.L. MENON’S MEMORIAL ROLLING CARROM TROPHY and prizes. Winner 2018: Sri J. Satyanarayana, Sri P Satya Prasad, Sri K. Manohar Reddy and Sri Y Vinayak Rao. Runner Up 2018: PVN Colony- Sri P Durga Prasad, B Santosh Kumar, Sri A Vasanth & Sri B Swaroop. Rolling shields for Winners and Runners of the 2nd Menon Memorial Carroms tournament were also given.

Participation certificates from RSC/IDLS and books from Aman were given to each participating student. Mementoes were given to the school principals/Correspondents, the team of RSC/IDLS, office bearers of SCFT and volunteers. Vote of thanks was given by Ms Sharada Lingaraju. Jayanti Menon expressed her heartfelt thanks to one and all, who helped in making the program a grand success.
