G. Jagadeswara Rao

In my last Status Report I detailed the struggles and efforts made by the Gokulnagar Welfare Society to evict encroachers from open space and to develop into a playground.  The following photographs depict the picture when the open space was under encroachers and after transformation into a beautiful playground.

The untiring efforts of the Society continued to improve the living conditions in the colony. The colony park is now renovated and a new lawn and several more plants have been added. A walkway is to be laid as the old walkway is worn out.

Replacing drinking water pipelines with higher diameter pipeline to improve water supply is in an advanced stage and may be completed this year.

To commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, the Society conducted Elocution Competition to the school going children on “ Gandhiji and Freedom Struggle”, and Quiz Competition to all residents of the Colony on Gandhiji’s Life, Indian culture and history. Many children and residents have participated with enthusiasm and won prizes.

Improvement in Voting

To encourage our residents in participating in the voting to the Assembly Elections, we announced five prizes and awarded prizes to (i) first-time voter (Boys). (ii) First time Voter (Girls), (iii) Senior Citizen (Men), (iv) Senior Citizen (Women) and (v) Beautiful Family. Residents have participated in this competition in large numbers. We have also helped the residents by supplying forms for registration as voter, submitted duly filled-in application and helped in enrolling in the voters’ list. On the day of the election both for Assembly and Parliament, one person dedicated all his time in identifying the Polling Booth Number and Serial Number in the Voters’ List for the people who were not served with voter slips. These measures have yielded in increasing the percentage of voting in the Colony.
