Thereafter Dr. K.S.R.Murthy, President of the colony made a brief report of the colony activities and achievements during 2019.
The following is the report:
- Clean and Green
JR Nagar has taken special care to develop more oxygen releasing and water absorbing plants as a part of its extensive greenery. You will find a variety of plants like bogada, kadamba, parijatham, vepa, maaredu, yerraganneru, nandivardhanam, etc. The colony has a plenty of flower plants. The saplings planted after the destructive Hudhud cyclone in 2014 have now become big trees and provide a very good shade giving a cool atmosphere in the colony. The Swachh Bharat sthupam along the road No.2 gives a hearty welcome to the colony.
- Solid waste management
Every house or flat in any apartment in the colony has separate wet and dry dustbins to collect dry and wet waste and hands over to the GVMC garbage collecting Vehicle. There are three large size compost pits (6x4x4’) in the colony where manure is prepared from the decomposed waste as part of the solid waste management.
- Rainwater harvesting in the colony
Significant progress was made in the area of rainwater harvesting in this year. During the last month, 7 more RWH structures were created alongside the roads of the colony making a total of 15 RWH structures. In addition, in three apartments, abandoned wells were converted to RWH structures by connecting them to terrace water outlets.
As an innovative approach, abandoned sewage sumps (6x8x10’) in two apartments were converted into RWH structures by connecting them to terrace water outlets, thereby conserving large quantities of rainwater. All rainwater carrying canals in the colony were connected to the nearest RWH.
According to an estimate by the Groundwater Department experts, in a year JR Nagar can save nearly 7 lakhs 45 thousand 65 litres of water by the conservation measures adopted by the Colony.
The colony conducted awareness programs to its residents on rainwater harvesting. A booklet entitled “A Practical Guide on Water Management for RWAs” was published and released in Nov., 2019 at the 7th National Conference of RWAs held in New Delhi.
The highlight for the year 2019 for JR Nagar in respect of rainwater harvesting is the Award it received from the Ministry of Water Resources, Govt. of India in Feb., 2019. JR Nagar was selected as the Third Best RWA in the country in respect of water conservation and management. The Award carried a cash prize of Rs.1.00 lakhs, citation and memento.

Colony residents organise cultural events every year on the occasion of Vinayaka Chavithi. Spiritual discourses, Kumkumarchana Pujas, Lakshmi Ganapathi Homam, and other spiritual events are a common feature every year.
